let their incomes = 11x and 7x
and their expenditure = 9x and 7x

for the first one,
income - expenditure = savings
11x-9x =400
2x=400
x=200
therefore, his income =11x =11×200=Rs.2200
now , for the second one,
income- expenditure =savings
7x-5x=400
2x=400
x=200
therefore, his income= 7x=7×200=Rs.1400
