Given:

The ratio of the length of a field to its width is 5:3.

To Find:

Find its length if the width is 42 metres.

Solution:

We know that,

Length : Width = 5 : 3

Width = 42 m

According to this,

3x = 42

or  x = 42/3

or x = 14

Similarly, by substituting x = 14 we get

Length of the field = 5x

                               = 5 x 14

                               = 70m

Hence, length of the field is 70 meters.
