The ratio of the number of apples to the number of oranges at a fruit stand is 5:3. There are only red and green apples, and 11/20 of the apples are red. If there are 6 more red apples than green apples, then how many oranges are at the fruit stand?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Ratio of numbers can also be represented as ratio of x times the ratio (I.e. if the ratio is 1:2 it is equal to 1x:2x because the x cancels out).

From this we conclude that 3:4:8 is the same as 3x:4x:8x and that the sum of these values is equal to 75:

3x+4x+8x=75

15x=75

x=5

so, 3x=15,4x=20,8x=40

hope this helped :)
