Given scale of map = 1 : 3 * 10^7.

Given that the distance between two cities is 5cm.

= > Therefore Actual distance = 5 : 3 * 10^7cm

                                                  = 15 * 10^7 cm

                                                  = (15 * 10^7)/1000 * 100

                                                  = (15 * 10^7)/10^5

                                                  = 15 * 10^2

                                                  = 1500km.

Hope this helps!

Let the required distance be x cm. Then, we have:

Distance Actual

on the map(cm) distance

1 3 × 10⁷

5 х

More is the distance on the map, more is the actual distance. So, it is a case of direct proportion.

1/(3×10⁷) = 5/х

(x × 1) = 5x3x10⁷

x = (15 x 10⁷).

Required actual distance = (15 x 10⁷) cm =

(15 x 10⁷) ÷(100 ×1000)km

(15 x 10⁷)÷(10²×10³)km

(15 x 10⁷)/10⁵ km

= (15 x 10²) km (15 x 100)km = 1500 km.

Hence, the actual distance between the two cities is 1500 km.
