The scale of a map is 1 : 5000000. What is the actual distance between two towns, if they are 4 cm apart on the map?

1cm = 5000000 cm or 500 km.

Therefore 4 cm = 4 X 500 km

=20000km.

Therefore the towns are 20,000 km apart.
