It means 1 cm on the map is 25000000 cm in real reality. So you multiply 4cm by 25000000 and that will give you how many cm the towns are apart. Then you convert cm to km by dividing it by 100,000 because there are 100 cm in a meter and 1000 meters in a km. So (4 x 25000000) / 100,000 = 1000km

The scale of a map is 1:25000000 means that if the distance of the map is 1 cm, then the actual distance is 25000000 cm.

25000000 cm= 25000000 km.

100000

= 250 km

[Hence 1 km = 100000 cm]

Distance on the map = 1 cm or 4 cm

Actual distance = 250 km or x km

Therefore, 1:4 = 250:x

1×x = 4× 250

x = 1000

Hence, the actual distance between the two townsis 1000 km.
