the sum of ages of mother and her daughter is 66 years. After 12 years ratio of ages will be 2: 1. Find mothers present age.

Now , according to question

x+y=66

x=66-y.................1)

after 12 years, their ratio will be 2:1 so,

(x+12)/(y+12) = 2/1

x+12=2(y+12)

x+12=2y+24

x-2y=12.............2)

Now, putting the value of x here, we get

66-y-2y=12

66-12=3y

54=3y

y=18

again putting the value of y in 1st equations,

x=66-18

x=48

therefore present age of mother is 48 years and daughter is 18 years..
