The sum of digits of a two-digit number is 8. If 36 is added to this number, the digits are
reversed. Find the number.

Let us assume x and y are the two digits of the number

Therefore, two-digit number is = 10x + y and the reversed number is 10y + x

Given:

x + y = 8

x = 8 – y ....... (1)

Also given:

10x + y + 36 = 10y + x

9y – 9x = 36

y – x = 4 ........(2)

Substitute the value of x from eqn (1) in eqn (2)

y – (8 – y) = 4

2y – 8 = 4

2y = 12

y = 6

Therefore, x = 8 – y = 8 – 6 = 2

Therefore, two-digit number

=10x + y = (10 × 2) + 6 = 26

and the reversed number

= 10y + x = (10 × 6) + 2 = 62
