x^2 -4x-21=0
(x-7)(x+3) =0

Age three year before = R-3 Years
Reciprocal of age 3 years before = 1/(R-3)
Age after 5 year = R + 5 Years
Reciprocal of age after 5 years = 1/(R+5)
1/(R-3) + 1/(R+5) = 1/3
multiplying both sides by 3(R-3)(R+5)
=> 3(R + 5) + 3(R-3) = (R-3)(R+5)
=> 3R + 15 + 3R - 9 = R² - 3R + 5R - 15
=> R² - 4R -21= 0
=> R² - 7R + 3R - 21 = 0
=> R(R-7) + 3(R-7) = 0
=> (R+3)(R-7) = 0
=> R = 7 ( R = -3 not possible as age can not be -ve)
