(given) x + y = 12

so y = 12-x          

10y+x-54=10x+Y

Replacing the value of y in equation

10(12-x)+x-54=10x+12-x

120-10x+x-54 =9x+12

120-9x-54 =9x+12

120-54-12=9x+9x

54 =18x

x=54/18

=3

Now Y=12-x

so Y=12-3 = 9

Hence Number is 39
