Let the four consecutive even numbers be x, x + 2,x + 4,x + 6

.

Sum of the consecutive numbers = 284

x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 = 284

4x + 12 = 284

4x = 284 - 12

4x = 272

x = 272/4

x = 68

Since x is smallest among other so value of x i.e 68 would be the smallest number.

Verfication:

68 + (68 + 2) + (68 + 4) + (68 + 6) = 284

68 + 70 + 72 + 74 = 284

284 = 284

LHS = RHS
