let the present age of father be x
the sons age be y
according to 1st condition
x+y=54
x=54-y.........(1)
according to 2nd condition
x-6=4(y-6)+2
x-6=4y-24+2
x=4y-16.......(2)
equating (1) and (2)
54-y=4y-16
5y=70
y=14
sons present age is 14
sub this in eqn(1)
x=40
fathers present age is 40
