The correct answer is option (d) 93 : 97

Given:

The sum of the three consecutive odd numbers is 285

To find:

The ratio of the smallest and largest numbers

Solution:

Let x be the odd number then the remaining consecutive odd numbers are x+2, x+4

[ since the difference between 2 consecutive odd number is 2 ]

the three consecutive odd numbers are x, x+2 and x+4

Given the sum of the three consecutive odd numbers is 285

⇒ x + x+2 + x + 4 = 285

⇒ 3x +6 = 285

⇒ 3x = 279

⇒ x = 93

Therefore, the smallest number x = 93

Then the largest number, x+4 = 93 + 4 = 97

Therefore, the ratio of the smallest and largest numbers = 93 : 97

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

we have to find The ratio of the smallest and largest numbers

it is given that the sum of consecutive odd numbers is 285

Let us take and suppose x to be the odd number

then let us take  the remaining consecutive  numbers that are consecutive =

x+2 \\x+4

as we can see that the difference between two consecutive odd number is two

there are the three consecutive odd numbers and they are  x, x+2 and x+4

it is given that the sum of the theses three consecutive odd numbers is 285

hence the equation becomes

x + x+2 + x + 4 = 285\\ 3x +6 = 285\\ \\3x = 279\\\\ x = 93

Therefore, the smallest number x = 93

Then the largest number, x+4 = 93 + 4 = 97

Therefore, the ratio of the smallest and largest numbers = 93 : 97

hence this is the answer
