Therefore ,

$\textbf{ x - y = 4 ....(2) }$

Now, adding equation (1), and we get

2x = 84

=> x = 84/2

=> x = 42

put this value in equation (1), we get

42 + y = 80

=> y = 80 - 42

=> y = 38
