Answer:

let Ist number is x .

then another number is 2x+2

According to Question

x+2x+2=26

⇒3x+2=26

⇒x= 26-2/3

x= 8

then another number = 2x+2 = 2(8)+2 = 16+2 = 18

Therefore,The numbers are 8 and 18

Given:-

  • The sum of two numbers is 26.

  • One of the numbers is 2 more than twice the other

To Find:-

  • Find the numbers.

Concept:-

  • Firstly, let's understand the concept. First,form an equation with the given clues and taking unknown numbers.Solve it and find out the numbers.

Solution:-

Let the two numbers be x and y.

Sum of the numbers = 26

According to the question we have!

⟹ x + y = 26________(1)

⟹ x = 2y + 2________(2)

Using (1) and (2) we get,

⟹ 2y + 2 + y = 26

⟹ 3y + 2 = 26

⟹ 3y = 26 - 2

⟹ 3y = 24

⟹ y = 24/3

⟹ y = 8

⟹ y = 8

Hence,

One number is 8.

Now,Substitute the value of y in one of the equations.

⟹ x + y = 26

⟹ x + 8 = 26

⟹ x = 26 - 8

⟹ x = 18

⟹ x = 18

Hence,

The other number is 18.

Therefore,

The two numbers are 8 and 18.

Verification:-

x + y = 26

x = 18

y = 8

⟹ x + y = 26

⟹ 18 + 8 = 26

⟹ 26 = 26

⟹ LHS = RHS

Hence,

It ie verified.
