Given :

  • The sum of two numbers is 40 and the
  • difference is 14.

 \\

To Find :

  • The Two Numbers

 \\

Solution :

✰ Let the two numbers be x and y such that x > y .

Therefore :

⟶ x + y = 40 .... ( 1 )

⟶ x - y = 14 .... ( 2 )

According to the Question :

⟹ (x + y) + (x - y) = 40 + 14

⟹ x + y + x - y = 40 + 14

⟹ 2x = 54

⟹ x = 54 / 2

⟹ x = 27

Now, Substituting the value of x in Equation ( 1 ) we will get :

➟ x + y = 40

➟ 27 + y = 40

➟ y = 40 - 27

➟ y = 13

Thus the required numbers are 27 and 13 .
