The sum of two numbers is 75 and their difference is 20. Find the difference of their squares.

Solution 1. Question
If the sum of two numbers is x and their difference is y, then the difference of their squares is xy.
Here x= 75 and y = 20
75 × 20 = 1500

Solution 2. Question
If the difference between the squares of two consecutive numbers is x, then the numbers are (x-1)/2 and (x+1)/2
(37-1)/2 and (37+1)/2
36/2 and 38/2
Therefore the required answer = 18 and 19.
