We can given information as,

x- \frac{5}{6} = -8

x= -8+\frac{5}{6}

For subtraction of rational number both the denominator should be same.

Multiply 8 by 6/6 we get,

x= -\frac{48}{6} +\frac{5}{6}

x=\frac{-48+5}{6}

x=\frac{-43}{6}
