The thief's story deals with the complexities of the human mind and the conflicts and crisis that work inside the mind.

EXPLANATION:

The Thief's story is a heart touching story by Ruskin Bond. It describes the nature of a thief and how his mind slowly changes with a touch of humanity.

According to Freud the human mind comprises a plane of consciousness above which is the conscious mind and below the unconscious. Above lies the Id and superego and below the ego and the subconscious super ego.

In the story, the thief is a typical corrupt teenager who always changes his name and address and robs people. Stealing is his Id.

When he seeks refuge as a helpless soul, Anil treats him well and allows him to stay. Anil is a hardworking and honest person. It is out of goodness and humanity that he gives refuge to thief. So when the thief runs away with his was of hard earned notes, his superego bothers him. The subconscious complexity of his mind forces his ego to overpower his Id. To return the money to poor Anil. He ultimately listens to his superego and returns the money revealing the complexities that rule the human mind.
