This writer of the story is Ruskin Bond.In the story the writer remembers his childhood and goes to his grandmother's house where he finds a boy.He introduces himself as the previous owner of the house where the boy lives.The author tells the boy his childhood stories and tells him that once he placed a cross on the tree but as he is old now so he cannot climb the tree now.But the boy climbs the tree and brings down the cross but author tells him to keep it.He tells the boy that "I came here to find my childhood and the cross."

The above are some of the theme I guess might help you. The main theme is, the narrator travels back to his old house after 25 years. It no more belongs to him. There he finds a li'l girl who lives there in his old house currently for 3 years. Then he visits his old tree while entwined with all his past memories. After visiting the whole Village, he then waves bye to the girl and goes back. While at the end he suddenly smelled the scent of Mango (summer breeze) and got all worked up for he almost forgot that he can't climb trees anymore!!!
