Role of philosophers:-
Philosophers created awareness among the French people.
- John Locke wrote the book "Two Treatises of government" sought to refute the doctrine of the divine and absolute right of the monarch.
- Rousseau wrote the book "The Social contract" told that Monarch should rule according to general will of the people. He carried the idea forward proposing a form of government based on social contract between people and their representatives.
- Montesquieu wrote the book "The Spirit of Law" give the theory of separation of power.
- The idea of these philosophers were discussed intensively in Salon and coffee-houses and spread among people through books and newspaper.
