Given:

  • The ages of A, B, and C = 70 years.

To Find:

  • The total age of A, B, and C three years ago.

Solution:

Let A = x_1, B = x_2, and C = x_3

From the given question we can write,

A+B+C = x_1+x_2+x_3  = 70

To find ages of them three years ago we have to subtract.

(x_1-3)+(x_2-3)+(x_3-3) = 70 {removing the bracket and adding}

x_1+x_2+x_3-9 = 70 {shifting like terms to one side}

x_1+x_2+x_3 = 70 -9 = 61 years. {subtracting the terms}

∴ The total age of A, B, and C three years ago = 61 years.
