The openings of the pahrynx and very close to each other bt still food does not enter the trachea mainly because of a structure called epiglottis. Epiglottis is a flexible flap at the superior end of the larynx. it acts somewhat like a switch between the trachea and the larynx and thus it permits air to enter the trachea and food only to enter the larynx alone.

The food does not enter into trachea because during swallowing, the aperture leading to trachea (glottis) gets covered by a cartilaginous flap called epiglottis and the food has no other passage except going into the oesophagus.
