Magnetism is measured in units of Newton-Metres per Ampere (Nm/A). Nm/A is also called tesla (T) and it shows the intensity of the magnetic pull or strength.

The instrument commonly used to measure magnetic strength – from very small magnets to the magnetic pull of earth, is a Gaussmeter, also known as Magnetometer. Gaussmeter is named after Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777 – 1855), a German physicist and mathematician.
