Answer:

Melting of ice is spontaneous above 273 K at one atm pressure.

At 260K and 1 atm, there is equilibrium mentioned in above equation

Hence ΔG=0

Answer: ∆g > 0

For the given reaction:

H2O(s)==>H2O(l)

T = 260 k

P = 1 atm

At STP for fusion of ice( P = 1 atm ; T = 273k),

The reaction of conversion of ice to liquid water will be spontaneous

(I.e ∆S >0)

However in the given case temperature is lesser than 273k (Given T = 260k)

Hence reaction is non spontaneous

Therefore ∆S<0

∆G>0(Since ∆G is inversely proportional to ∆S)
