Deserts mostly have sandy soil . It cannot hold water for a long time. The diurnal range of temperature is the highest in deserts . Plants require a stable range of temperature, so only those plants grow in the deserts which are adapted to the harsh desert environment. There is also a scarcity of rainfall which is not suitable for ordinary plants and trees.
