Answer:

8.4 litres

Explanation:

This a question on moles

At s.t.p 1 mole of any substance is equal to 22.4 litres

We must first write the correct chemical equation

CH4 + 2O2 —> CO2 + 2H2O

Since we have the mass of oxygen we can find the moles of oxygen

Moles = mass/molar mass

The mass of oxygen is 24 g

The molar mass of oxygen is 16 × 2 = 32 (the r.a.m of oxygen is 16)

24 ÷ 32 = 0.75 moles

The mole ratio of oxygen to carbon (iv) oxide is 2:1

We therefore divide the moles of oxygen by 2 to get the moles of carbon(iv) oxide

0.75 ÷ 2 = 0.375 moles

We then multiply the moles of co2  by 22.4 l to get its volime at s.t.p

0.375 × 22.4 = 8.4 litres
