Answer:

When the author's grandma died it was all silent the birds were not chirping and were just sitting outside silently where the grandma's body was lying. The author's mother threw bread pieces in the veranda for the birds but cleaned them the next day as the birds did not eat those pieces of breads in order to express their sorrow for the grandma's death since they had a very good bond grandma regularly threw them bread and used to spend a sound time with them it was the best time for her in the city house when she used to be the most happy.

I'm sorry I got in much detail u can cut it short but hope it helps.

Answer:

ln the chapter "The Portrait of a Lady" by "khuswant singh "

when grandmother died, thousands of sparrows collected around the Corpse of author's grandmother .

They sat silently and paice no attention to the breadcrumbs thrown by the author's mother . They flew away silently when the corpse were taken away for crimation .

in this way the sparrows mourned over the feeders / grandmother's death.
