Let

x=# of chickens

y=# of goats

Each chicken and goat has 1 head.

Each chicken has 2 legs. Each goat has 4 legs.

This results in the following system of equations:

x+y=43

2x+4y=108

Solve for x in first equation:

x=43-y

Substitute x in other equation to get:

2x+4y=108

2(43-y)+4y=108

86-2y+4y=108

2y=22

y=11

x+y=43

x+11=43

x=32
