There are two NH2 groups in semicarbazide. However only one is involved in the formation of semicarbazone. Why?
Kindly answer sir/mam.

because second is involved in resonance

Hey dear,

● Explanation -
- Semicarbazide has 2 NH2 groups one attached to amine N-atom and carbonyl C-atom.
- During formation of resonance structures, NH2-CO bond develops partial double bond character.
- As lone pair of electrons is not available, hence only 1 NH2 group is involved in formation of semicarbazone.
