A rough surface has uneven platform which results in up and down movement of the object when it moves on the platform. On the other hand, when the platform or surface is polished the object moves straight without bumps on the surface and so the frictional resistance increases.

Answer:
i. When surfaces are highly polished, the area of contact between them increases. As a result of this, a large number of atoms and molecules lying on both the surfaces start exerting strong attractive forces on each other and therefore frictional force increases.
