Metals which are more dense settle down at the interior of the earth like mantle and core.

Metals which are lighter can be found in the surface of the party's crust.

This is because of the higher amount of pressure exerted by mantle and core which forces the metals to be more dense than their counterparts.

There is least pressure at the earth's crust which allows lighter metals like silicon to stay on top of the surface.

Correlation between density of metals and their location in the interior of earth:

  • The heavier the metals, more they are found in the core of Earth. And, the less denser the metals, more they float in the earth’s crust.
  • This is due to the fact that inside the earth, there is more pressure due to enormous heat between core and the "lower mantle".
  • Mostly, iron which is the most abundant and heavier metal in nature is found in the core.
  • While lighter metals like "sodium, potassium", aluminum, etc., with less density is found on Earth’s crust.
