jerome was suffering from paranoia.

the doctor prescribed him beefsteak, beer, walking, and good sleep habits, and urged him not to “stuff up your head with things you don’t understand”

Jerome is suffering from no disease. He has only one kind of imagination to contain all the diseases at one time except the homemaid's knee. The doctor prescribed Jerome not to interfere in the things which he is not aware of .The doctor's prescription was that 1 Ib with one pt bitter beer every 6 hours. 1 ten mile walk every morning. 1 bed at sharp every night
