Given :

  • Three consecutive numbers are such that they are multiplied by 3, 4 and 5 respectively, their sum is 74.

To Find :

  • Numbers

SOLUTION :

Suppose Consecutive Numbers :

  • x
  • x + 1
  • x + 2

Multiplied by 3, 4, 5 Respectively :

  • 3x
  • 4x + 4
  • 5x + 10

A/C To Question :

Their Sum Is 74.

Then,

3x + 4x + 4 + 5x + 10 = 74

12x + 14 = 74

12x = 74 - 14

12x = 60

x = 5

Hence, Numbers Are :

  • x = 5
  • x + 1 = 6
  • x + 2 = 7

Verification :

(5×3) + (6×4) + (7×5) = 74

15 + 24 + 35 = 74

74 = 74

Verified.

Let three consecutive integers be x, x + 1, x + 2.

According to the question -

2x + 3(x + 1) + 4(x + 2) = 74

2x + 3x + 3 + 4x + 8 = 74

9x + 11 = 74

On transposing 11 to R.H.S, we obtain

9x = 74 − 11

9x = 63

On dividing both sides by 9, we obtain

9x/9 = 63/9

x = 7

x + 1 = 7 + 1 = 8

x + 2 = 7 + 2 = 9

Hence, the numbers are 7, 8, and 9.
