Important measures to alleviate poverty :-
1). National Rural Employment guarantee act ( 2005) (NREGA) It was passed in September 2005. It was implemented in 200 districts on 2nd February 2006. It provides 100 days assured employment every year to every Rural household in 200 districts. Under the act , if any applicant is not provided employment within fifteen days he/she will be entitled to a daily unemployment allowance.

2) Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana ( 1993) (PMRY) This scheme was started in 1993. It aims at creating self - employment opportunities for educated unemployment youth in rural areas and small towns. This scheme will help the educated young men to set up small business and industries.

3) Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) This scheme was introduced in 2000. This scheme is meant for the poorest of the poor. Under this scheme the poorest are given 35 kg of food grains every month. The issue prices of wheat and rice are Rs. 2.00 and Rs. 3.00 per kg. respectively.
