According to the question in the old solution;

There is 40% of sugar in the solution.

So the water will be 60% in that solution.

Sugar volume=(3 x 40/100) litre

1.2 litre

Water volume=(3-1.2)=2.8 litre

If we add 1 litre water in that solution

The total water volume will be

=(1.2+1)=2.2 litre

Total solution volume will be =(3+1)=4 litre

Sugar percentage=100x1.2/4

=30%

So the new percentage will be 30% for the sugar.

{We imagined sugar in liquid form diluted in this solution, that's why we used litre unit for an easier calculation}
