To calculate the direct distance between two points in topography are there any ranges

In topography, we generally measure the distances with a thread placed on the map and then we measure the length of the thread. It has to be rounded off value or approximate value till the first decimal place or so. It would be appropriate.

The complete length of the path between any two points is called distance. Displacement is the direct length between any two points when measured along the minimum path between them.
