Answer:

Click the Start button, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

If you're using Windows NT, double-click on Data Sources (ODBC). For Windows 2000 and XP, double-click on Administrative Tools, and then double-click on Data Sources (ODBC) . The ODBC Data Source Administrator window should appear.

To create a data source for the current user only, click the User DSN tab. To create a data source for all users of the computer, click the System DSN tab. FRx Software recommends the use of a System DSN for all data sources, even if the computer is used by only one user.

Click the Add button. The Create New Data Source window appears.

Select the SQL Server driver, and then click Finish. The Create a New Data Source to SQL Server window appears.

Type a name for the data source in the Name box.

If desired, type a description for the data source in the Description box.

In the Server box, type the name of the server to which the data source will connect, and then click Next.

Choose the method of authentication required to connect to your SQL Server.

If SQL Server authentication was chosen in step 9, type a Login ID and Password, and then click Next.

If a database name cannot be specified in the application that will use this data source, select the Change the default database to check box, and then select the database from the drop-down list. If the application does allow a database name to be specified, this step is not necessary - the application will provide the default database when connecting to the data source.

All other check boxes on this screen may be left alone unless specific changes are necessary for your server or environment. Click Next.

All options on this screen may be left alone unless specific changes are necessary for your server or environment. Click Finish.

Click the Test Data Source button and verify that it tests successfully.

Click OK, and then click OK again to return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator window.

Click OK to close the ODBC Data Source Administrator window.
