tourism is an industry which not only generates foreign revenue but also creates a plethora of employment opportunities . in spite of having rich treasures of historical heritage , india is lagging behind in projecting itself as a global tourist destination . write a letter to the editor of a national daily about the reasons for the grim state of tourism and suggest ways and means to promote tourism . { insanitary and unhygienic conditions at all holy pilgrimage centers - lack of transport facilities - scarcity of accommodation - fleecing tendency of vendors and priests - uncultured behavior of pilgrims - security threats and terrorist attacks}

Subject: Untapped Tourism Potential in our city/country

Sir:

I am writing this letter to bring the attention of the people as well as the State Tourism Ministry to the untapped tourism potential in our city. The Lodhi fort, Sutlej River near Phillaur, PAU, Rose Garden, and Hareela Amusement Park have immense tourism potential. Since Ludhiana is a world renowned industrial city, thousands of foreign and national industrialists visit for trade and business. Owning to lack of tourism related facilities such as world class hotels, state-of-the-art transport facilities, lack of international airport, etc. are some of the facilities that discourage the tourists from staying long in the city.

Tourism plays a key role in the development of local as well national economy. Tourism helps create an impetus to economic activities which in turn draw investment, revenue, and economic growth. New shops, hotels, travelling facilities, malls, plazas, and other developmental activities begin to take shape because of tourism. Local residents benefit through the services that rise naturally in demand due to economic activities generated by tourism such as learning and recreational activities. All advanced nations have fairly developed tourism and related infrastructure.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily I appeal to the people and concerned authorities to promote tourism in the city. The government must provide adequate safety and create world class tourism facilities in the city; and the local people must treat the tourists as gods. They must practice the precept of ‘Athiti Devo Bhava’ I hope you will give due place to my views in your esteemed daily.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Kuldeep
