theorem: when two 2 triangles are similar then ratio of their areas is equal to the square of the ratio of their corresponding sides...

therefore :

GIVEN : AB/ DE = 2/3 and area of triangle ABC=5 sq cm.

=> area of triangle ABC/ area of triangle DEF = AB^2 / DE^2

5/ area of triangle DEF = 2^2/3^2

5/ area of triangle DEF = 4/9

therefore .. area of triangle DEF = 45/4

=> area of triangle DEF = 11.25 sq. cm
