Twenty litres of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 5:3 .If four litres of this mixture is replaced by four litres of
Milk then ratio of milk to water in the new mixture will be : solve with steps

5x + 3x = 20

8x = 20

x = 20 ÷ 8

x = 2.5

Amount of Milk in the first mixture =

5x = 5 × 2.5 = 12.5 leters

Amount of Water in the first mixture =

3x = 3 × 2.5 = 7.5 leters

Then if we replace 4 leters of mixture by 4 leters of milk...

Then I think it the ratio of the second mixture could be :

12.5 + 4 = 16.5 leters of milk

7.5 - 4 = 3.5 leters if water

Therfore, the ratio could be

16.5 : 3.5 or its simplified form..

I have just tried to find the answer..

I'm not sure whether I am doing correct or not.

here is your answer

the mixture contain 20 litres

Let,

the amount of milk in the mixture be 5x

the amount of water in the mixture be 3x

according to question

=5x + 3x =20

=8x = 20

=x = 20÷8

=x = 2.5

now the value of x is equal to 2.5 litres

then the amount of milk in the mixture be = 5x

= 5×2.5 liters

= 12.5 liters

the amount of water in the mixture be

=3x

=3×2.5 liters

=7.5 liters

now ,

we find the ratio of the new mixture

if the four litres of milk is replaced by the water then the ratio be

the new amount of milk in the mixture be 12.5 + 4

= 16.5 liters

the new amount of water in the mixture be 7.5 - 4

= 3.5 liters

then ,the ratio in the new mixture be

=16.5 : 3.5

1650 \div 350 \\

= 33 : 7
