Two adjacent faces of a cube are painted. The cube is then cut into 125 smaller identical cubes. How many of these smaller cubes will have exactly one face painted?

Answer:

The cube is 5 * 5 * 5 smaller cubes = 1 large cube

So each face is 5 * 5 = 25 cubes  

The number of cubes on each face with only 1 side painted is

4 * 5 = 20

So there 40 smaller cubes with 1 face painted
