The reason for its success was the preparation that was done at the beginning of the process. It started in September 1991 at the Mont Fleur conference centre outside Cape Town in a series of meetings facilitated by Adam Kahane from the international oil company Royal Dutch Shell[1]. This conference was called The Mont Fleur Scenarios with the initial title An Alternative Scenario Planning Exercise of the Left[2][3].
