Two candles are of different lengths and thicknesses.
The short and the long ones can burn respectively for
3.5 hour and 5 hour. After burning for 2 hour, the
lengths of the candles become equal in length. What
fraction of the long candle's height was the short
candle initially?

Answer:

1:1

Explanation:

Here ,

the velocity of The melting of the both candles are same

since, times of the melting are also same = 2 hour

let time T1 for short one

T2 for long one

we know that,

T = S/V

if S1 & S2 be the length and V1 & V2 be the melting speed of the both candles respectively

now T1 = S1/V1.....1 and T2 = S2/V2....2

since ,T1 = T2

Therefore,

From equation 1 & 2

we have ,

S1/V1 = S2/ V2

=> V2/V1= S2/ S1

=> S2/S1=1/1 { since V1= V2 }

Therefore,

we have the required fraction is 1/1

and the ratio will be 1:1
