Two capacitors of capacitances 3uC and 5uC respectively are connected in series, Calculate
equivalent capacitance. If a battery of e.m.f 10V is connected across them. Calculate the charge on
each capacitor and the p. d across each capacitor.

equivalent capacitance in series is 5*3/5+3uc

which is 15/8uc you know the formula 1/c =1c1+ 1/c2

charge q=CV in series both capacitors have equal

charge, in parallel they have equal potential ,

so we just need to put the values get the answer

here Q=CV here c is the equivalent btw bcoz we don't know the v across each capacitor but we know the v across both capacitors or equivalent capacitor which is 10

so charge is 15*10/8 uQ

which happens to be charge on both the capacitor now we know change on each capacitor we can easily find potential diff using the same formula

q=CV

v=q/c

for 1st (3)

v = 15*10/8*3

v= 5*10/8

for second

v= 15*10/8*5

v = 3*10/8
