Given:

There are eight cards labelled 1 to 8

Two cards are drawn at random

To Find:

Probability if the sum of the two numbers is odd

Probability if the sum of the two numbers is even

Solution

The cards are as follows:

1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8

The least sum possible is that of 1+2, which is 3.

The highest sum possible i that of 7+8, which is 15.

So, the sums of any two numbers given in this set range from 3 to 15, i.e., there are 13 observations.

The list of odd numbers are 3,5,7,9,11,13,15. So there are 7 observations.

p(odd)=7/13

The list of even numbers are 4,6,8,10,12,14. So there are 6 observations.

p(even)=6/13

The probability that the sum of two numbers are odd is 6/13 and that of them being even is 7/13
