So, in this case of internal touching, the distance between the centres of larger and smaller circles = (8 - 3)cm = 5cm.

shubhi9643: how do you know its the case of internal touching
Anonymous: This feature means there is a common tangent for these two circles at the point they touch one another. Since, a tangent always remains at right angle with a radius of that circle at the point the tangent touches the circle
Anonymous: so, in this case, radii of both the circles passing through the point the tangent touches both the circles must pass over one another (since it is a case of internal touching) or these two radii will be the extension of one another (in case the circles touch one another externally).

Since they touch each other externally therefore the distance between them will be the sum of their radii i.e. 8+3= 11

In case of internal touching, distance between centre will be 8-3=5

So max distance possible is 11

min will be 5
