Two compounds 'P' and 'Q' consists of the same elements N2 and O2. The compound P consists of nitrogen and oxygen in the ratio 7:4 respectively. The compound Q consists of nitrogen and oxygen in the ratio 1.4 : 2.4 respectively.

(a)Identity the law on the basis of which the compounds P and Q are formed and state the law.

(b) Show the way in which you could answer the above problem.

Nitrogen oxide (N2O). A colorless, odorless gas that is used as an anesthetic and analgesic. High concentrations cause a narcotic effect and may replace oxygen, causing death by asphyxia. Nitrous oxide is also used as a food aerosol in the preparation of whipping cream.
