Two numbers are in the ratio 3:5.if 9 is subtarcted from both the new ratio is 12 :23 .find the first number.

The first step is to equalize the 2 equations.

23(3x-9) = 12(5x-9)

69x-207=60x-108

9x = 99

x= 11

The first numbers are 33 and 55.
