Let the two numbers be 3x and 5x.

According to the question,

3x + 5 = 7

5x + 5 9

By cross multiplying we get,

9 (3x + 5) = 7 (5x + 5)

27x + 45 = 35x + 35

27x - 35x = 35 - 45

-8x = -10

8x = 10

[Minus on both sides will get cancelled]

x = 10

8

x = 5
